Institute of Cybele
Ermoupolis of Syros was chosen as the seat of the “Kyveli Institute” because in 1904, at the Apollo theatre, Kyveli, 16 years old, appeared for the first time next to her husband Mitsos Myrat with the company of Konstantinos Christomanos. The marble-built capital of the Aegean, a 19th-century bourgeois city, reflects the spirit and culture of Europe and is a connecting link of the entire Greek diaspora. The Apollo Theatre, inaugurated in 1864, was built in the style of the lyrical Italian theatres. New plays are written and performed, foreign authors are translated and presented in Greece for the first time in Ermoupolis. The Institute chooses to support the continuation of this cultural creation.
